Up close and personal

In order to provide you with a little insight into the Nothing But Wedding Cars brand and to get you closer to the names behind it, we interviewed John & Julie and documented it below, just for you!

Obviously, you got started in the wedding industry after attending a family member’s wedding. How did you find the process of starting in the wedding industry?

We both come from big corporate backgrounds and so it takes quite a lot to phase us, setting up our wedding car business was no different. Once we had researched and made the decision to start the business it was foot straight to the floor. The biggest challenge was finding the right cars and after travelling the length and breadth of the country we purchased our first two, a 1966 splitscreen campervan and 1974 Beetle cabriolet, named after the Bride and Groom who inspired us, Tori and Billy.

What was the biggest learning curve for you upon entering the wedding car hire business?

We are both very customer focused and believe in pushing the boundaries of “ the norm.” We learnt very quickly that a one shoe fits all attitude is not the best way for most couples, and so we take a very flexible approach, offering ideas and advice to help each couple create their dream wedding transport package … after all it is the most important journey they will ever make.

What separates Nothing But Wedding Cars from its competitors?

We are both very customer focused and believe in pushing the boundaries of “ the norm.” We We believe that our customers deserve an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives and so as well as offering 7 outstanding and iconic cars we also provide a unique package of special touches that will help to make their wedding day all the more special. We put our customers at the heart of everything we do and are in regular contact with them from their initial enquiry, carefully planning every detail and ensuring that they feel fully supported every step of the way. We even contact them after their wedding, providing copies of the photos taken by the drivers. Many of our couples comment “they were more like friends.”

How can couples go about booking your services? How far in advance should they book?

We would recommend that couples book well in advance, particularly given the current situation, with so many weddings postponed from 2020 and early 2021 to 2021/2. We would advise booking at least a year in advance to be able to secure your dream wedding car/s. Booking is simple, it is just a case of going to our website www.nothingbutweddingcars.co.uk and completing a request for a quote, it will prompt for the information we need and couples can  select their car/s of choice. Alternatively they can call us on 07950 233240 or email on info@nothingbutweddingcars.co.uk. To secure a booking it is just a case of paying a deposit of £75, the balance is not required until 2 months before their wedding

What advice would you give to those planning a wedding and looking to hire a wedding car?

Always research the company before booking to ensure they are reputable and trustworthy. Check out their website (websites take time, effort and money to create and to keep upto date, so they are also a good indicator if the company is serious about their business and plans to be around for some time). Check out recent reviews on Trustpilot, Google and Facebook, look to see if there are any from couples who have been affected by Covid19, this will show you how they respond when faced with a challenge. Ideally arrange to view the vehicles before booking and if this is not possible, ask them to send  recent videos of the cars rather than photos which can be easily airbrushed and very misleading.

Is there anything that you’d like to mention about your services or the wedding hire process that many people forget to mention?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, guidance or ideas, we have planned and delivered wedding transport for 100’s of couples, so if you are not sure what will work for you, fear not. We like nothing more than working with our couples to help them come up with the perfect package, to ensure they have the awesome wedding they truly deserve. There is no request too big or too small and we love to get our creative heads on to put together something a bit different and extra meaningful.

What has been your favourite moment at a wedding you’ve provided the car hire for?

There are so many, as every wedding is special and we are always looking for ways to inspire or surprise our couples. During the planning process with one couple, the Bride let slip that part of the reason for having a VW campervan as her wedding transport, was her Dad used to own one when he was courting her Mum, it  was his pride and joy, and his biggest regret was selling it to buy a modern car. We get immense pleasure  from creating those unexpected magic moments and so with agreement from the Bride, after the photos, we took her Dad and Mum for a short ride and even managed to capture some very special photos…. Not a dry eye !!

Lastly, just for fun, what gets you on the dance floor at a wedding? Is there a particular song? A particular drink? Or is it a lot of arm twisting?

It depends which one of us you ask, I (Julie) will dash to the dance floor if any classic pop song comes on, John on the other hand takes more persuasion and rather a lot of wine to venture onto it, but  then when he does, it really is a sight to behold.
